Walk-in vaccinations have proven a huge success in boosting the numbers of vaccinated individuals in the country. After having commenced on 2 August, the Science, Technology and Innovation Minister recently announced that walk-ins will be stopped from 15 September.
Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba explained the decision on Twitter by saying that it was made after considering that the number of people who have yet to be vaccinated in the Klang Valley is very small.
“Taking this into consideration, I would like to announce that the walk-in programme in Klang Valley will be stopped from Sept 15 onwards.”
“This can be seen from the small number of attendees at PPVs recently,” said Dr Adham, at a job handover ceremony with Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
He further added that those who have not received their Covid-19 vaccinations can get their jabs at selected health clinics from 16 September.
“The list of clinics will be announced in the near future,” he added.
Dr Adham clarified that the halting of walk-in vaccinations will only involve the Klang Valley and that other states may continue with the programme.
“Those in other states are advised to follow the announcements made by their respective state health departments for the walk-in programmes there.”
The co-chairman of Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) also said that its outreach programmes with non-government organisations will continue its ‘mop-up’ initiative.
“This is to ensure that no one is left out from our vaccination programme.”
To date, 97.8% of adults in the Klang Valley are fully vaccinated.
