Australia has become quite the hotspot for Malaysian travellers lately. But it seems like some Malaysians tend to extend their stay beyond what their tourist visas allow.
According to @NewsBFM, reports suggest that Australia is reviewing the visa application process for Malaysians entering the country in response to the issue of overstays.
According to the post, Malaysia has consistently held the highest number of overstayers arriving on tourist visas, as stated by its High Commissioner, Danielle Heinecke, in an interview with BFM.
It’s been reported that Malaysians now need to provide additional documentation when applying for visas in order to enter Australia.
High Commissioner Danielle Heinecke stated that,
“Australia is continuously exploring ways to enhance visa processing times, among other measures.”
Danielle also mentioned during the interview that they will adjust the settings to ensure they contribute to what they are aiming for in their relationship, which is strengthening business-to-people links.
“There is work to be done and it is an active conversation,” she added.

Traveling can be a thrilling adventure, but it’s super important to stick to the rules of your entry visa and not stay longer than allowed. Even if you overstay for just a few days, you could end up with fines, getting held, kicked out of the country, or banned from coming back.
