An alleged former politician and a mosque committee member in Malacca was recently caught watching pornographic content inside the house of worship, after a video showing him in the act went viral.

The matter was exposed by the mosque’s imam, who said he recorded the video solely for reference by the authorities and did not upload it online. Nevertheless, the imam, Muhammad Adhan Adnan, has since stepped down from his position, as stated in an official letter.

The decision was made following instructions from the mosque chairman

In the letter dated 21 January, 2026, Adhan expressed his disappointment with the mosque management, describing it as weak and afraid to take action against the committee secretary who was allegedly caught watching pornographic videos inside the mosque.

He said the individual had used mosque equipment to access pornographic material on 27 December, 2025. Despite evidence being provided, Adhan said he was disappointed that no action was taken against the committee member.

“After that, there was no defence from the mosque for me as an imam when other parties accused me, twisted the facts, and even cursed me for attempting to expose the misconduct taking place in the mosque,” Adhan wrote in the letter, as shared by Sinar Harian.

He stressed that the recording was never intended for public viewing, but was meant solely as a reference for the mosque management and the Malacca Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) to enable appropriate action to be taken.

The video was later misused and circulated by irresponsible parties

“For those who criticise me without knowing the real story, I forgive them all. In the future, think before making any comments,” Adhan said in one of his Facebook posts.

In the same post, he said he was accused of tarnishing the mosque’s reputation.

Meanwhile, Malacca Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Exco Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the issue would be discussed, and further action would be decided, at a mosque committee meeting scheduled for next week.
