It’s only human nature to protect yourself from potential threats and dangers, hence it’s why people are going wild buying toilet paper and other sanitary products in accordance with battling the spread of Covid-19. And more importantly, many are cancelling their flight and travel plans in fear of catching the virus while overseas or at airports.
But, millennials, millennials.
NBC News has reported a spike in flight ticket purchases and travel plans by youngsters who champion the ‘if I die, I die’ or more commonly ‘here for a good time and not a long time’ state of mind. The portal, who spoke to a college student, shared on how she had booked three foreign holidays while other people are cancelling theirs, as she wants to leverage on the cheap prices of flights and hotels during this chaotic time.
“I feel like if the coronavirus would get even more serious and like, wipe out a large amount of people. I might as well be somewhere having fun,” she said.
She added that, “there is no fun in staying at home and being all worried.”
There are many who agree with her and carry the same mindset, mainly because travelling has always been a universally loved activity but not many can afford the luxury. Now that flight prices have plummeted and hotels are offering affordable packages, it opens up the perfect opportunity for lower income groups to experience travelling overseas.
Subsequently, they do understand the risk they’re putting themselves and others in by choosing to travel now, but considering the fact that low prices like this rarely come by, they believe that the reward of seeing the world is well worth it.
And frankly, I don’t blame them. Being someone who can barely afford a flight ticket but yearns to travel, the current state of travel prices is a ridiculously tempting call to finally take a well-deserved trip and let off some steam.
But, it’s a case of consequence and conscience. What happens if you contract the virus and effect others because of your trip? Would you be okay with that?
