In the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia, dengue cases are also on the rise with an average of 8% increase in the last eight weeks.

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), 50,511 cases of dengue have been recorded from December 2019 to 13 June 2020.

Out of the total number, 88 people have died from the disease.

The states that have recorded the highest number of cases are:

  • Selangor – 28,741
  • Kuala Lumpur – 5,083
  • Johor – 4,680

In an Instagram post, the ministry said that as Malaysia recovers from the Covid-19 outbreak, “efforts to eliminate dengue infections also need to be highlighted in the new norm.”

“Based on the trend of dengue cases over the last five years, MOH expects a SECOND WAVE from June to September 2020.”

“Together, let’s carry out “10 minit hapuskan Aedes” where we get rid of Aedes breeding grounds at your residential area every week.”

As much as we need to worry about the Covid-19 outbreak in our country, let us not forget that dengue can be dangerous to you and your family as well. So, please make sure to remove all forms of stagnant water in your homes or any other possible breeding grounds.
