One main precaution we keep hearing during the Covid-19 outbreak is to avoid public places and if you have to be in a public area, make sure to wear your masks and wash your hands at all times. We are aware that the transmission can occur through close contact so it’s important not to touch your face.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted today that if you were to experience any symptoms, immediately quarantine yourself and avoid public places.

He added that in public gatherings, maintain a social distance of at least 2 metres and to always practice good ethics by covering your mouth with a tissue before you cough and sneeze. The Star reported that Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this when asked about the Healthy Ministry’s advice about the Covid-19 outbreak being declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation.

“Those experiencing respiratory infection symptoms are advised not to attend programmes that involved crowded places, including religious activities.”

He advised the public to avoid travelling overseas especially countries affected by the outbreak. Hisham urged the public to practice solidarity during these trying times and avoid mass gatherings if possible. “Everyone has a role to play, including the public, as this is not only the responsibility of the Health Ministry alone. It is a shared responsibility,” he said.

It’s best we take this golden advice to heart and avoid risking our health unnecessarily. It can be difficult but just try to avoid any public gatherings for now but if the situation arises, make sure all precautions are taken.
