When you thought 2020 couldn’t bring in any more surprises, this latest development will certainly ‘bug’ you! 😛
Have you ever encountered the loud insects Cicadas or known in Malay as riang-riang? A large, cleared-winged insect, its relatively small in size in comparison to the deafening shriek of a sound it makes.
In fact, Cicadas one of the most annoying bugs you can find in the wild. Its sound is so high-pitched that one could mistake it for a wailing ghost at night! Here’s a video of a Cicadas in action for your reference:
Ergh, so geli!
Okay, now imagine millions of this insect swarming your area making that sound in unison. That’s a nope from me!
Well, that’s exactly what will be happening to the American area of Southwest Virginia, parts of North Carolina and West Virginia this year. As reported by CNN, as many as 1.5 millions Cicadas per 4000 square metres will emerge from underground to swarm these areas.
This phenomenon is quite unique whereby the insect will swarm out in droves every 17 years or so. Of course, what better time for them to choose to crawl out from underground than in 2020 right?
Thankfully, Cicadas do note pose any danger to humans but its sound could produce some nasty noise pollution.
If Cicadas emerges this Aidilfitri period, I would think that the folks in America wouldn’t have imagined this is the riang-riang that comes during Hari Raya!
