Malaysia is extremely unlucky when it comes to ‘missing’ items. Someway, somehow, we’ve lost an aeroplane, billions of ringgit, and now we’ve lost a military-grade radar system.
Malaysiakini reported that a radar system worth MILLIONS of ringgit went missing from the Tanjung Pelepas port in Johor.
The radar was one its way to the Netherlands from Australia.
However, the Malaysian Customs Department held up the cargo as they had to wait for some documents from the Ministry of International Trade Industry (Miti).
The shipment arrived in May, 2017 without any permit from Miti to transport the high-tech military equipment. It is illegal to transport military items without a permit under the Strategic Trade Act 2010.
Unfortunately, when the authorities made an audit check, the radar system was missing!
A police report was immediately lodged and multiple agencies are currently investigating the matter. Both Customs and Miti are currently on the case and even an internal investigation is ongoing.
Omg! Was it an inside job?!?!
Authorities mentioned that the shipment could not have been removed from the port by grounds “because of strict checks at the entry and exit points of the port”.
Therefore, it is believed that the radar COULD have been illegally shipped off to the Netherlands. According to an unnamed source,
“The authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the consignment could have been loaded onto another vessel and shipped off to the Netherlands discreetly to avoid further problems.”
This freaky disappearance has lead netizens to wonder if terrorist groups actually stole it. One netizen commented,
“Don’t be surprised if it’s already in the hands of Islamic terrorists. I won’t be surprised if the entire government machinery has already been infiltrated.”
What could possibly go missing from Malaysia next? Sigh…
