Who doesn’t love McDonald’s? It practically the household name for fast food brands!
One thing a lot of us love about McDonald’s is their seasonal or regional stuff they offer. For example, we have the Prosperity Burger that is only available in Malaysia and Singapore around Chinese New Year, or the varying dipping sauces for McNuggets.
No, this is not an advertisement but if McD wanted to sponsor me I don’t mind.
So when a few Singaporean visited their friends in Japan, they brought along 200 packets of the curry sauce. Okay, first of all…how did they bring that into Japan and how did the sauce not spill all over their luggage bags?
THAT’S A CRAZY LOT OF CURRY DIPPING SAUCE!
Two Japanese guys, Sanjun and Hatori had the bright idea of using all 200 packets to cook a Japanese curry meal. Using fast food condiments as a main ingredient in a meal? What could go wrong? Everything!
They prepped the ingredients such as meat, potatoes, carrots, and other vegetables as usual. But instead of using the traditional Japanese curry sauce, they poured in the curry sauce from McDonald’s.
All was well throughout the cooking process. In fact, it smelled extremely delicious according to them. The aroma was so enticing and they could not wait to devour the meal!
‘Chef’ Sanjun said the sauce reminded him of “a unique scent reminiscent of Chinese medicinal herbs, or slums, filled the room”
Finally, the curry was ready for tasting. As they lifted a spoonful of the aromatic curry, the smell was just sensational. They were obviously salivating from the scent alone. However…the moment the curry touched their tongues, their facial expressions into one of complete disgust.
Their comments included
“It’s horrible. Utterly horrible.”
“It tastes like curry with a whole lot of honey in it…”
“A taste that makes one tremble”
Apparently, cooking the sauce removed whatever curry flavor it had and only left the curry with an overly sweet taste. Even though the Japanese curry is sweeter than usual curries from India, Malaysia, and Singapore, the Japanese themselves found it just too damn sweet for consumption.
To try and salvage the curry, they added a food flavoring called the Somi Syantan Deluxe. Kinda like Ajinomoto lah.
But it didn’t help much at all. Watch their hilarious reactions in this video:
Well guys, sometimes…there are certain things you just don’t need to try. Let’s just keep the sauces for the McNuggets.
