A Malaysian content creator in Melaka recently took to social media to share how he sells a special type of meat to be served in dishes.
Taking to his Facebook page, Rizal Anuar showcased 2 porcupine carcasses that he had chopped up and placed into containers to be sold.

He wrote, “This evening, the slaughter of 2 Malayan porcupines was completed; they were bred through LICENSED captive breeding (they were not wild porcupines). I just completed packing and immediately kept them in a freezer where they’re waiting to be (cooked) and served.”
“Better than chicken”
While porcupine meat may seem unusual to many, it appears that some Malaysians have tried it and quite enjoyed the taste.

“This animal is tastiest when cooked as ‘masak lemak’ and it’s tasty when its grilled or roasted using coconut shells. Its meat is soft. But, if I watch the demonstration of how its skin is peeled off, I won’t be able to eat it, that part reminds me of something else.”

“How much is a kilogram, boss? It’s delicious, better than chicken.”

“It’ll be tasty if made into spicy Rendang.”

“It’s an easy animal to breed. It doesn’t get sick when it’s faced with heat and rain. It’s not picky when it comes to food. And, its meat contains a lot of antibiotics to ward off diseases. We should normalise eating (porcupines) as they’re good for our bodies. If they are wild, that’s even better. Their gall bladders are very valuable.”
A quick Google search shows that Malayan porcupine consumption is a thing in Malaysia, and their meat has high nutritional value.
