The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been ordered to take action in relation to the Coldplay concert ticket resale advertisements on social media.
According to a report by Harian Metro, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil shared this while adding that there has been fraudulent activities in the sale of concert tickets on social media, and that MCMC will ask the operators of the platforms to take down the posts.
“If detected, we will take (scammers) to court and if the (ticket sales) are still on the platform, appropriate action will be taken,” he said.
This comes after the discovery of the existence of accounts on various platforms allegedly run by scammers selling Coldplay concert tickets, to take advantage of hardcore fans who didn’t manage to buy tickets.
Additionally, attention was also drawn by the public to the fact that there are scalpers selling the band’s concert tickets at insanely inflated prices of up to RM43,200.
In regards to this, Fahmi had previously shared that he has asked the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) to monitor the matter. He also advises the public to only purchase tickets from legitimate sources.
“The government takes a serious look at this (ticket scalper) issue and we have to curb and examine what laws and regulations can be used. I remind you that if you want to buy, buy from legitimate sources so as to not be cheated and if you have bought but didn’t receive a ticket, make a police report for them to take action,” he added.
