A few days back, we spoke about McDonald’s KL Sentral branch going all out to attract the people to apply for a position by giving free motorcycles, tablets and iPhones after completing three months of employment.
WORLD OF BUZZ recently visited the branch’s very own hiring manager as we sought to find out why were they resorting to such drastic measures for their hiring process.
An opportunity for everyone
The hiring manager, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared with WORLD OF BUZZ that she did not see the giveaway as a drastic method but instead, as an opportunity for everyone to get back on their feet again after the pandemic, especially the affected ones.
The jobs are open to anyone above the age of 18 and below 60 years old. Surprisingly, the KL Sentral outlet is not the only one hiring but we were informed that entire outlets in Malaysia are actually looking for manpower to join their teams.
What does this mean? It means that the special giveaways are not only applicable in the KL Sentral branch – they’re also available for outlets (that are hiring) throughout the country!
“This (McDonald’s KL Sentral branch) is where you get registered. Then, you’ll be posted to your designated branch.”
If and only if you meet the criteria
However, getting through the hiring process does NOT guarantee you those giveaways. While hostel and food will be provided, there are, of course, certain criteria that McDonald’s expects you to adhere to before getting those goodies.
“They’ll have to complete three months of training before they are actually entitled to those giveaways,” the hiring manager clarified.
During the training, successful applicants are not only expected to serve the customer but they will also be exposed to the management aspects of the career.
Upon completing training, candidates will be awarded 2 certificates. There are also KPIs that candidates are expected to achieve on a monthly basis, namely:
- Completing 208 working hours a month, 6 days per week
- Attending to work on time without taking unnecessary MCs
- (Showing) discipline, productivity, and responsibility
- Good customer service and social skills
She also told WOB that the with the free giveaways, it can hopefully ease the everyday burdens of successful applicants as they perform their jobs.
“They can use the motorcycle to commute to work and the phones will make communications easier,” she clarified.
When asked about how many applicants have been applying for the jobs, she told WOB that ‘it’s going really well.’
“We even have married couples looking for posts here. They will not be working in the same branch but they won’t be far from each other,” she added.
Not only full time
The hiring manager also told us that they are not only looking for full-timers but also students who are looking to be part-timers.
“Part-timers will need to work for at least 8 hours per day, 6 days per week.”
In the meantime, internship placements are also available at any of the outlets with a duration of 6 months.
