MBSJ MPP Zon 3 Councillor, Christopher Joseph, is urging residents of USJ 11 to stop feeding pigeons at the neighbourhood park along Jalan USJ 11/1, Subang Jaya, after the area was seen to have become overrun by the birds.
The SJ Echo Facebook page reported that the councillor attributed the growing pigeon population at the park to individuals who continue to feed the birds despite repeated reminders to desist.

He stated:
“Feeding the pigeons may seem harmless, but it encourages them to breed rapidly and gather in large numbers.
“Their droppings and nesting materials can carry bacteria and fungi that cause serious infections, especially in the elderly and children.”
Health risks and public nuisance

SJ Echo further explained that Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) health officers have discouraged the public from feeding wildlife, emphasising that pigeon droppings and feathers can transmit respiratory diseases such as histoplasmosis and psittacosis.
The birds’ presence has become a significant concern, with droppings reportedly covering benches and walkways throughout the park. Consequently, the councillor is appealing to the public to cease feeding the pigeons and to ensure that all food waste is disposed of properly.
