The police recently started an investigation on a married couple who was allegedly sniffing glue while driving with a child in the backseat.
The incident is believed to have taken place around Ayer Keroh, Melaka at an unknown date and time.
It was caught on a 18-second video by another road user before going viral on social media sites on October 7, which led to the police taking action on the husband and wife.
The footage shows the man, who is self-employed, breathing into a transparent plastic bag before passing it to his wife, who is believed to be working as a restaurant helper.
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said following the transmission of the video, the police initiated a probe and tracked down the couple to their house at Kampung Bukit Pegoh in Pernu.
They met the vehicle owner at 11pm, October 8 to inspect his car, one day after the video surfaced.
According to Christopher, the 33-year-old male driver along with the 23-year-old female passenger and a four-year-old girl believed to be the driver’s stepdaughter, have been brought to the Melaka Tengah Traffic Police Station for questioning.
“After being investigated, the driver admitted that he was in fact sniffing glue, while the female passenger did not admit to the act.”
“The urine test results of the driver and passenger were found to be negative.”
He added that an investigation paper had been opened under the Road Traffic Rules 1959.
