With the continuous rise in Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, it is extremely important that people strictly follow the standard operating procedures (SOP). But some individuals don’t seem to be worried that the virus is spreading quickly among the community and are still breaking very simple rules – STAY AT HOME!

Police arrested a man in Rawang for violating the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) as he was seen eating at a restaurant while wearing a pink breacelet.

The incident happened on Saturday night (3 October) at Bandar Tasik Puteri, Rawang, reported Harian Metro.

According to Gombak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Arifai Tarawe, they found that the man, a 52-year-old, had previously received instructions from the Ministry of Health (MOH) to undergo quarantine at home from 3 October until October 16.

“The man has undergone a Covid-19 screening test after arriving on a flight at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) and the test results have not yet been received,” he said.

“Police arrested him for violating the surveillance and observation order for Covid-19 infection contact in accordance with Section 15 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.”

He said that the remand process against the man will be carried out today and it will be made in a special room provided at the District Police Headquarters (IPD) Gombak.

Meanwhile, the case is being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code, which is the offence of any act committed causing the spread of a life-threatening disease. Investigations are also being conducted in accordance with Section 22 (b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988/Regulation 11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in the local area of infection) (No 8) 2020.

Arifai Tarawe adds that the police will take stern action against any individual found violating the quarantine order.

Now is not the time to take the rules lightly. We need to work together to flatten the curve in this country once again.
