On July 14, a 20-year-old private university student sustained serious injuries after being slashed in a knife attack.
The incident involved a 22-year-old Chinese national, who is the victim’s ex-boyfriend and was arrested by police later that same day.

He pleaded not guilty in court
In a recent update, You Wei pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court today (July 21) after the charge was read to him in English before Judge Norazlin Othman.
He is accused of intentionally causing grievous injuries to a woman (also a Chinese national and his former girlfriend) by stabbing the left side of her neck with a knife.
The incident allegedly occurred around 6:30 PM on the second floor of a private university in Subang Jaya.
He is charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison, along with a possible fine or whipping, upon conviction.

“He is currently receiving treatment for bipolar disorder”
During the proceedings, although Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal did not offer bail, defence lawyer Revin Kumar appealed for it, arguing that his client had fully cooperated with the investigation and was willing to comply with any conditions set by the court.
“The accused is currently receiving treatment for bipolar disorder and is taking prescribed medication from a private clinic. He is also willing to surrender his passport and report regularly to the police,” Revin added.
The court subsequently granted bail set at RM20,000 with two sureties. He is also required to surrender his passport, report to the nearest police station, and is prohibited from contacting the victim or prosecution witnesses.

The case has been scheduled for mention on September 17.
