A marriage proposal is a big step in life and usually this would mean that the both of you are ready to move on to the next level of your relationship. It is the norm for guys to pop the question to the girl and this would be one of the most nerve-wracking moments in his life. Although girls can pop the question too if you were so inclined! 😉
However, a 32-year-old Japanese guy who proposed to his girlfriend on August 4 ended up dying due to an unfortunate accident. So sad! 🙁 According to HK01, the tragic incident happened in Miyako, Okinawa where the man and his girlfriend were standing on the bridge that linked Miyako to Irabu island.
It is believed that the couple was strolling along the bridge offering picturesque views of the sea when the man proposed to his girlfriend. She happily agreed and the man was so ecstatic at her response that he forgot where he was standing for a moment and thus, slipped to his death to the sea below. Oh my goodness!
Apparently, he was believed to be standing on the outer edge of the railing, which had a one-metre width of space surrounding the edge. This is used by maintenance personnel to upkeep the bridge and not meant for the public. The authorities in Miyako received the distress call about 4am in the morning when the panicked girlfriend lodged a police report.
They deployed a search party of divers into the sea to look for the man but when they found him 18 metres deep and pulled him to the shore, he was certified dead. The victim had allegedly been drinking some alcohol before the tragedy occurred.
Meanwhile, netizens commiserated with the grieving fiancée on the loss of her lover and compared her feelings to being in heaven for a moment, and then dropping into hell the next. They also urge the authorities to look into securing the maintenance space around the bridge to prevent further tragedies from occurring.
Such a sad calamity to befall the newly engaged couple! May his soul RIP.
