How can a person do such a horrendous thing to the dog for such a petty reason?

A 43-year-old man, goes by the initial A, had been arrested by police for his act of vengeance against a neighbour’s dog, reported Kumparan.

It was said that the incident happened on Monday (12th August) at Tangerang, Indonesia, where A shot the dog with an air rifle four times at a close range, killing the dog. The man allegedly brazenly did so in plain sight of the children in the neighbourhood.

The owner of the dog, a man named Titus, was not at home at the time of the shooting. His sister-in-law, on the other hand, confronted A soon after the shooting, but she was allegedly threatened after he pointed the rifle at her.

A’s outrageous action was then reported by Titus to the Tangerang Police on the next day. He was soon apprehended by the police later that evening and was taken in for questioning. According to police, the reason why he shot the dog was because it made his wife and child fall off a bike by barking at them.

“His wife and child fell off the bike because they thought that the dog was going to chase after them,” stated Tangerang Police Chief Sabilul Alif.

However, it was clear that the dog, named Beedo, couldn’t have chased after them as it was tied to a tree.

Animal abuse is not generally considered as a serious offense in Indonesia. Under the Criminal Code, animal abuse that leads to the death of the animal is a crime punishable by up to only nine months’ imprisonment, as well as a minuscule IDR300 (RM0.08) fine.

However, the police have hinted that A may be charged with unlawful use of a firearm, which carries more severe penalties.

It’s sad to see the dog treated in such an inhumane way. We hope that the culprit will be brought to justice.
