A man in Pagar Alam, South Sumatra, Indonesia, was detained after he was discovered to have been cheating customers into buying cat meat that he claimed was lamb.

According to a report by Detik News, the perpetrator, identified as 55-year-old SJ, was exposed following an operation that took 4 months around South Sumatra, and he was arrested at a hotel on Wednesday (September 3).

Initial investigations found that more than 100 cats were slaughtered and their meat was sold to the public.

“To avoid the unpleasant smell, the perpetrator added lime leaves to the packages of cat meat,” a police spokesperson explained.

He added that a package of cat meat was sold for 100,000 IDR (~RM25) to 120,000 IDR (~RM30).

“There were also customers who bargained with the prices,” the perpetrator said.

How did the perpetrator obtain the cats?

The animals were allegedly stolen and captured as they roamed on the streets or around residential areas. The captured cats were then slaughtered in secluded areas, such as under bridges.
