The Social Department of Malaysia (JKM) is looking for the next of kin of a 9-month-old baby girl who has been abandoned at the Seberang Jaya Hospital in Penang since March 2025.

In a statement, the JKM Seberang Perai Tengah District Office (PKMD Seberang Perai Tengah) said that the girl was born at the Muslimah Maternity Ward on 12 March 2025, before being referred to the Seberang Jaya Hospital after she was diagnosed with Pierre Robin Syndrome (PRS).

For context, PRS is a congenital condition marked by a small lower jaw (micrognathia), a tongue that falls back into the throat (glossoptosis), and often a U-shaped cleft palate, leading to breathing and feeding difficulties.

The statement added that the girl’s mother, an Indonesian national named Chris Renova Girsang, disappeared after her daughter’s diagnosis.

Efforts to track the mother down had been unsuccessful, and the 9-month-old girl is still being treated in the hospital.

“Accordingly, JKM requires details of the girl’s next of kin to make the best decision for her placement planning and to ensure the child’s welfare is protected,” JKM added.

Next-of-kin or members of the public who know the child’s biological parents are requested to come forward to PKMD Seberang Perai Tengah or contact Protector Puan Siti Zulaikha at 04-5382584 / 019-7610079 or via email at ym.vog.mkjobfsctd-9618bc@ahkialuz.
