Many of us have role models who have reached great heights either in their careers or through perfecting their talents, and they are the ones who inspire us to achieve our own dreams. However, a man from Singapore shared on Facebook recently that he has the “perfect role model” – who just so happens to be his own father.
Known as Ayie Ahbotz on Facebook, he shared that to be a role model, one has to have a positive influence on others; someone who is not filled with greed or selfishness.
“They help shape someone’s personality, and characteristics. They are people who someone can look up to for advice in a hard situation, and know that they will give those words of wisdom,” he wrote.
“They will never judge our past actions, instead only look to help because they really care. They are real. They don’t do it for money, power or fame. They don’t do it for their own benefits.”
He then goes on to share about how his father has always supported his children despite not having enough money, and that he would do whatever it takes to “get his responsibilities done”. He even said that being his son makes him feel like he has a “permanent armour” for the rest of his life.
And instead of telling him how to live, Ayie said that his father shows him how to live life instead.
“The way he overcomes life has taught me that no matter how hard things are, you have to keep going. No matter how little your salary and how hard your job is, for as long as it is right, you just have to get it done,” he said.
In several photos that he shared with his post, he showed his father tending to a cart of discarded items as he seems to be working for Nee Soon Town Council.
“Sometimes a role model comes from your own family member(s). Their hard work and determination is what we should recognise. From there you could understand the struggles that they are facing and help break the hardships. You never know that you will be the only one who could help or rescue,” he wrote.
He then ends his post by saying that we should all cherish the ones we have in our lives because we never know when they won’t be around anymore.
