Do you guys remember that 2001 war movie, Black Hawk Down, that was directed by Ridley Scott and starred huge names like Tom Hardy, Orlando Bloom, Josh Hartnett and more?
Well, it turns out that that movie didn’t actually bring justice to the full story of the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993.
Malaysian actor, Hairul Azreen, took to his TikTok account to showcase the trailer to Malbatt Misi Bakara, directed by local film producer, Adrian Teh, which recounts what actually happened in Mogadishu, Somalia.
To caption his TikTok, he shared a line from the movie, “Hey Buddy!! Where are you from?”, adding “Final official trailer (for the) movie MALBATT (Misi Bakara)”.
So, you must be wondering, what is actually going on here?
The battle of Mogadishu revolves around a team of nearly 100 US Army Rangers travelled to the capital city of Mogadishu to catch the top two lieutenants of a Somali warlord.
At one point, a number of the US Army Rangers in helicopters were shot down and trapped within hostile territory, forcing their authorities to request for reinforcements. Among those who heeded the call were the 19th Battalion Malay Regiment, which was deployed as part of the United Nations peacekeeping force.
Black Hawk Down basically glorified the US Army’s role in the rescue operation of their troops, but Malbatt, which stands for Malaysian Battalion, will highlight how 114 Malaysian soldiers risked their lives to successfully free 70 of the 75 US soldiers that were trapped.
Despite their heroics, their role in the rescue mission was severely downplayed by international parties.
Well, silent will this story stay no more, thanks to Malbatt Misi Bakara.
