The number of recent abuse cases involving young school children is very alarming!
In a recent report by Free Malaysia Today, a woman claimed her 9-year-old son was violently punched by his teacher at a national school in Putrajaya last week.
The boy’s mother, Nur Syaheerah Sutchira Abdullah, said her son was allegedly punched in class because he wrongly answered a question in English.
The traumatising incident that occurred on 11th July (Tuesday) reportedly left her son feeling dizzy, nauseous, and petrified to return to school.
The Standard Three student was reportedly struck by his teacher so hard that he fell backwards, hitting his hip on the corner of a table in the process.
“The punch caused my son to feel disoriented and he was also told to stand until the class ended,” Syaheerah stated at a press conference earlier this week.
Checks by a doctor found that the punch caused “shaking around the young boy’s brain”, indicating he could have suffered a mild concussion. He also felt pain in his waist where he hit the table as he fell down.
Some of the symptoms of a mild concussion include nausea and dizziness, which was what this poor boy experienced after getting hit on the head.
The boy’s mother then said, “I am distressed that my son was treated in such a manner.”
“I met the principal but was told that the teacher and my son would be monitored. No action has been taken against the teacher and it was only that my son was given counselling.”
“My son told me not to tell the school authorities as he was scared of the teacher.”
So far, the only action taken by the school was that the teacher was transferred to a different class and wouldn’t teach Syaheerah’s son.
Understandably worried, she lodged a police report against the teacher on Friday (14th July).
The case is currently being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
Let’s hope the authorities take appropriate action to prevent this from happening to another student!
