We never know when accidents will happen and safety shortcuts should never be taken because this can have detrimental consequences! A supervisor from a construction company tragically died when he fell from the construction site of the Jalan Ipoh MRT last night (5th August).
According to Sinar Harian, the man is a local and the police confirmed the incident saying that they received the report around 4.25pm. Sentul police chief ACP S Shanmugamoorthy said that when they arrived at the location, they found the victim lying on the ground with severe head injuries.
When paramedics arrived, they confirmed that the man had died on the spot and early investigations showed that he had fallen about 10 metres off the platform when he slipped through the gaps between the T-beam. At that time, the victim was with three other colleagues and they were inspecting the T-beam at the construction site.
It was reported that the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) visited the site as well to investigate whether the site had adequate safety requirements. Currently, ACP S Shanmugamoorthy said that they do not suspect any foul play and they have classified the case as sudden death. The victim’s body was brought to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) for post-mortem.
However, some netizens mentioned in a viral tweet that perhaps the victim had not been following the proper safety requirements. Some said that he might have not been wearing a safety harness while others said he might have just slipped through the gaps of the safety net when he had plummeted to his death.
Our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends.
