Minor accidents can turn into a brawl if it isn’t handled properly, especially if the other party is a road bully.
So a helpful lawyer, Salkukhairi Abd Sukor shared some tips on Facebook regarding what you should do in the event you were involved in a rear-end car collision.
He shares that if someone crashes into your car from behind, the first thing you should do is to keep calm and not panic.
He continues, “Pull over to the side to prevent blocking the road.”
“Exit your car together with your phone. Refrain from holding any objects such as a steering lock, steel rod or parang because you may be charged for an attempt to cause injury.
“Take a picture of the license plate and the road tax of the car that hit you.”
Of course, chances are, you wouldn’t be in a good mood after what happened, but try to be friendly when talking to the other driver instead of lashing out on him.
“If possible, request to see the driver’s driving license and IC, and take pictures of them.
“If he acknowledges that he is at fault, ask him to bear the cost of the repair. There’s no need to ask money from him. Just head to a workshop with him and let the mechanic estimate the cost of repair. You should also get his phone number or business card.
“However, if he refuses to own up, don’t force him to pay you. Just let him go since you’ve already got his details. Then, you should immediately head to the nearest police station to lodge a report. Together with the police statement, head to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to find out the insurance company of the car that hit you.
“After that, you can go to the panel workshop of the insurance company and request them to handle the third party claim for the damages on your car.”
It’s easy, isn’t it? So, just follow these simple steps and be a law-abiding citizen, guys!
