The game sounds so whimsical as J.K. Rowling described it, flying in the air on broomsticks while throwing different types of balls around, then finally winning the game by catching the elusive golden snitch!

Well, quidditch is not just a thing of fantasy anymore but an actual sport being played by people across the globe. In fact, there is a World Cup for quidditch called the IQA Quidditch World Cup!

They even run around with sticks between their legs! Too bad they can’t actually fly though.

This year, 29 teams from around the world converged in Florence, Italy from June 27 to July 2 to battle it out and see which country would emerge as champions, with the Malaysian team making its debut!

The competition was tough but Quidditch Malaysia managed to climb their way to 18th place, beating teams like New Zealand, Ireland and Switzerland.

Though they didn’t manage to snag first place, the team did a great job for their very first time at the IQA Quidditch World Cup!
