Pet abandonment is incredibly sad and heartbreaking to witness because it shows pets being left behind and they might not know that their owners may not return. During these difficult circumstances that we are in, animal activists are pleading to pet owners not to abandon their pets.
According to Free Malaysia Today, recent misinformation and misunderstandings have led to pets being unjustly left to fend for themselves in shelters or on the streets.
This perspective was also similarly echoed by Malaysia’s Animal Association (MAA) in their facebook post regarding a dog that was abandoned by its owner at the side of the road.
In the post (21 April), MAA stated that the dog still has a collar on and the poor doggo was waiting at the exact place where the owner had left it, hoping the owner would return.
This dog was seen waiting at the roadside by the Nilai Impian 2 roundabout faithfully expecting the return of its owner. MAA urged the residences around Nilai Impian, Negeri Sembilan to consider being the new owner of this loyal dog.
It’s absolutely gut-wrenching to see the hope of the loyal dog crushed when the owner doesn’t return to bring the dog back home. Pets’ world often does revolve around us and they are wired to have close bonds with humans.
Many news platforms have been covering issues regarding pet abandonment and the increase in stray animals during these critical times. Just because times are tough now, we shouldn’t leave our animal best friends behind.
If a pet owner is really having a difficult time and they are unable to care for the pets, the least they can do is consult with animal shelters to ensure the well-being of their pets.
