The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has seized a lorry after a viral video showed the heavy vehicle crashing into a traffic light pole in Pekan Nanas, Pontian, Johor, on Monday (5 January), after it was driven with its ‘bucket’ in a raised position.
Sinar Harian quoted Pontian District Police Chief Superintendent Hadzrat Hussien Mion Hussien as saying that the 53-year-old lorry driver voluntarily filed a report at the Pontian District Police Headquarters (IPD) Traffic Police Division.

A lorry collided with a traffic light pole in Pontian due to its bucket being up
Hadzrat Hussien stated, “The incident occurred at about 2:50 PM, when the lorry driven by a local man was believed to have passed a traffic light intersection from the direction of Pontian to Pekan Nanas without realising that the vehicle’s bucket was in a raised position.”
“As a result, the lorry’s bucket crashed into the traffic light pole. The lorry driver involved did not suffer any injuries,” he added.

Initial investigations found that the incident was reportedly caused by a technical problem with the vehicle, and a urine screening on the driver returned negative.
“The police have visited the scene of the incident, taken photos and drawn rough diagrams to assist in the investigation. A recording of the driver and employer’s statements will be taken in the near future, while the lorry involved has been seized for further examinations and investigations,” the Pontian District Police Chief added.
Video of the incident went viral

Earlier, footage of the incident went viral online and among the social media accounts sharing the video was the InfoUpdate X page. In the video, the lorry can be seen with the bucket up before it crashed into the traffic light pole.
The bucket is then shown being lowered, pulling at electrical wiring that had become entangled during the collision.
