It’s no secret that mental health care isn’t widely accessible in Malaysia, and not to mention, the services that are available isn’t exactly affordable.

But with the constant strain of our daily routines, especially from being stuck for long hours in traffic and from being stressed out over the skyrocketing prices of goods, people; more so the B40 community, need inexpensive mental health care.

This is where the Nyawa Organisation comes into play. Mental health aid association, Nyawa, is now offering subsidised therapy sessions for those who need it, at only RM5 per session.

They wrote, “Inisiatif Menyantuni B40 is back! In collaboration with AWAS Malaysia, we are offering subsidised therapy sessions for anyone who cannot afford them. The sessions will be conducted by credible counsellors and clinical psychologists.”

“To encourage commitment and reduce attrition rates, you will be charged a minimum commitment fee (RM5) for each session.”

Each patient will receive four therapy sessions at RM5 per session, but you will need to first complete an online psychological assessment.

(UPDATE) Unfortunately, this initiative has been temporarily halted due to the sheer number of people in need.

“We sincerely apologise, but due to the overwhelming number of respondents, we can no longer accept new responses to this form. However, Nyawa will try our best to raise more funds to provide additional subsidised therapy sessions in the near future,” they wrote.

However, they did include other methods in which people can seek help for the time being.

“If you are having difficulties managing your thoughts and emotions and need immediate help, please call the hotline: Befrienders at 03-76272929 or the Talian Kasih at 15999,” they added.

You can also find other affordable mental health services here.

Kudos, Nyawa, for such an amazing initiative!
