The whole purpose of a movie premiere is to show the film to people who can generate coverage to drive box office results. This often times come with a red carpet event prior to the screening of the movie so that the cast of the movie can be photographed and interviewed.
Though, over the years, this has been extended to more than just the actors of the movie as more and more personalities and influencers are getting invitations so that the film can leverage on their fan bases to gain more audiences.
An example of this is the recent Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One Malaysian premiere held at LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre, where a bunch of local actors and influencers were invited to walk the red carpet.
Among the people present at the red carpet premiere were actor Zizan Razak, DJ Leng Yein, musician Justin Kuzco and influencers such as Moses Wong and Gajen Chandra.
Not knowing that these red carpet events are aimed at leveraging on the fan bases of these well-known people, netizens were quick to question their presence at the event.
“Red carpet but where are the artists? Haha.”
“Why are they so excited? They’re not even Mission: Impossible actors.”
“They’re behaving like they acted (in the movie).”
“I thought Tom Cruise is coming.”
In another post from the red carpet event, people were calling the influencers present ‘mediocre’ as they didn’t know them.
Influencer Chi Howe decided to hit back.
So, what do you think of all of this? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
