After getting viral on social media, Indonesia’s TikTok based badminton channel @mainraket, shared the top five shuttlers in the world who have made millions by playing badminton.

According to the list, our own national hero, Datuk Lee Chong Wei was named the richest of the bunch, beating his own rival Lin Dan.

Here is a TikTok video of the list they made.

In the video, Chong Wei was named the richest badminton player in the world, amassing $75 million throughout his career, with Lin Dan making $33 million, Chen Long making $22 million, Pusarla Sindhu making $8.5 million and Saina Nehwal making $4 million.

Having based their findings from a report made by Indian-based sports reporting company, The Sport Grail, the video has since garnered more than a million views, with many sharing their astonishment at just how much Lee Chong Wei has made throughout his career.

The amount, however, has been into question because Lee Chong Wei himself dismissed that his net worth was RM300 million.

“If I had RM300 million, I think I would have stopped playing badminton already.”

“I no longer need to work and I would just stay home.”

He shared his doubts that any Malaysian athlete could amass such an amount compared to other sports such as football, golf or tennis overseas.
