Being a representative of a sport for your country means taking on major responsibilities. No matter how skilled you are, there’s a lot of pressure to perform at your best, which can be really stressful.
In a recent report by BFM News, Malaysia’s professional badminton player Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei has voiced his intention to step away from Malaysian badminton. He emphasises the urgent need for significant changes to revive the sport in the country.
@NewsBFM reports that Lee’s intention to step away from the sport comes after Malaysia’s loss to China in the men’s competition final at the Asia Team Championships last Sunday.
In the thread, Lee highlights how other countries are consistently sending younger players to tournaments. He emphasises that even if these players lose to higher-ranked opponents, continuous participation builds their confidence.
Lee Chong Wei also stressed that Malaysia would risk falling behind, with badminton no longer being among the country’s top sports.
“If not, we will be left behind, left far behind, and badminton will no longer be one of the top sports in this country.”
Lee also shared that he couldn’t bear to face such a scenario.
Netizens began flooding the comment section to express their thoughts on the remarks made by the former world No. 1 player, and let’s just say, the comments weren’t all nice.
