Despite the free LRT rides for 30 days that were recently announced by the PM, some users think that the relevant authorities should have focused on fixing the existing damages at the stations and improving the frequencies of the trains.
Last Saturday (June 18), in conjunction with the announcement of the free ride, a Twitter page Kami Jual Tshirt Awesome revealed that they have collectively taken the liberty to ‘conduct a checking (an inspection)’ on the conditions of multiple LRT stations along the Kelana Jaya Line.
In what may seem like a good use of the free public transportation rides, this group of well-intentioned concerned citizens found several faults that are the gleaming pride of KL’s train stations.
Their journey first began with Putra Heights LRT station and ended all the way to KL Sentral station, and they have much to share with us!
First off, their first observation was that multiple key stations along KL’s busiest train route have leakages on the ceilings. These stations are:
- Putra Heights
- Subang Alam
- Alam Megah
- Taipan
- USJ 21
As they proceeded on their train journey, they noticed that at the SS15 LRT station, not only are there leaks on the ceiling, but the elevator was not functioning at all – and there were no signs whatsoever indicating that either it was broken or under maintenance, yet another disregard by the authorities to properly inform the public on any new developments.
Next on the list of LRT stations with leaky ceilings, was the Lembah Subang LRT station where instead of a broken elevator, they encountered a malfunctioning escalator which has allegedly been ‘under maintenance for weeks’.
As the curious case of leaks continue at more stations, they finally arrived at KL Sentral station, the intersection of several train routes and platforms. What they noticed, however, was a large gathering of crowds queueing at the platforms – even though there was an empty train right in front of them.
As they inched closer, they found out that the train was ‘undergoing a test’ and as the number of passengers increased at the platform, finally a two-coach train arrived to ease the congestion. Alas, this train was insufficient to fit all the passengers currently waiting on the platforms.
At the end of their tweets, the citizen investigators stated that their trip began at 9am and finally ended at around 2pm in the afternoon.
While the damages may be expected, we’re definitely SHOCKED to find out that the group found consistent damage at almost all of these newly built LRT stations!

And while the announcement of the 30-day free rides is definitely good news for frequent users, we certainly hope that RapidKL will be able to fix the multiple problems plaguing their stations for the comfort and safety our Malaysian passengers.
