The lawyer for the parents of 6-year-old Zayn Rayyan, found dead in Damansara Damai last year, has announced he will no longer represent them after their recent arrest and remand.
According to the New Straits Times, Mahmud Jumaat said he’s stepping away from the case to focus on other cases. He also suggested not speculating about it and urged everyone involved to respect the legal process.
“I hope the case moves forward smoothly”
Zayn Rayyan’s parents were arrested at their family home in Puncak Alam at 10:05AM, confirmed by Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan.
The police have taken the couple’s phones to help with the investigation. Hussein also mentioned that this action followed standard procedures. However, he didn’t provide any more details about it.
Mahmud attended the remand application hearing for Zayn Rayyan’s parents at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court last Saturday, during which Magistrate Ainaa Muhammad Kamal granted a 7-day remand until June 7th.
“As a legal practitioner, I encourage everyone to respect the process and avoid making speculations about this case for the sake of everyone involved,” said Mahmud.
