The Kuantan City Council (MBK) has just announced that they have changed the spelling of the popular coastal resort town, ‘Cherating’.

cherating 1

Taking to their Facebook page, they shared how Cherating, which is known for gorgeous beaches, surfing, batik and handicraft workshops, as well as sea turtle conservation activities, will henceforth be known as ‘Cerating‘.

But why?

This has led many to ask why MBK changed the spelling when the town has long and famously been known as ‘Cherating’, and questioned the purpose of the change.

“Who proposed this? Who agreed to it? What is the purpose of the change (in spelling)? As a Kuantan resident, I object!”

“Why the change? Do you not have other work? There’s so much to be done but a spelling is what you want to change?”

“Rather than changing the name, it’s better to fix the infrastructure that’s on the way to Cherating.”

“Rather than changing the name and signboards, it’s better to fix the roads and install street lights. Even the road is as though we are on the moon.”
