A group of 21 students and 4 teachers from KEMAS kindergarten in Kampung Klang Gate had a terrifying experience when their classroom got flooded, leaving them trapped.
A video shared by @update11111 shows students standing on their classroom tables as floodwaters rise to almost tabletop height, leaving them with nowhere to go.
The students and teachers were saved
As reported by Sinar Harian, the quick action of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) helped save the students and teachers from the flash flood after heavy rain hit Klang Valley on Tuesday, October 15.
JBPM Selangor’s Assistant Director of Operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, said they got the call at 10:28 AM. When the Ampang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) team arrived, they found that 4 houses and a kindergarten had been hit by the flood.
Mukhlis mentioned that the fire department has ordered the occupants of the house to move to the Penghulu station, while the 21 students have been handed over to their parents.
An overflowing river caused the flash floods
According to a report from Berita Harian, the overflow of river water led to flash floods in the Ukay Perdana area, which resulted in 10 vehicles becoming stranded in rising waters.
Mukhlis further explained that the water level in the affected area was measured at approximately 0.31 metres deep. Fortunately, despite the severity of the situation, no casualties have been reported.
Monitoring at the location also found that the water levels have since receded.
