Yesterday (29 May), the country has again seen triple digits in new Covid-19 cases after a new cluster was discovered which is traced to a cleaning services company.
103 new cases were recorded, a huge leap from a total of 25 cases from Wednesday and Thursday.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah explained, as reported by The Star, that 24 infections were detected in the new cluster and all of them were Bangladesh nationals. He said,
“The cases were discovered after a private clinic conducted screening on the workers of the cleaning services company.”
20 of them live together in a hostel in Kuala Langat while the rest live in an apartment in Nilai. From the 24 new cases, 428 close contacts have been identified and will soon be screened. Dr Noor Hisham stated that the recent clusters are caused by the workers living together in confined spaces which can rapidly increase the spread of the virus.
The priority now is to solve the poor living conditions of these workers so that future virus transmissions can be stopped. Hopefully, this matter can be addressed soon.
