Kindness goes a long way for those who need it. And while we all come across complete strangers on a day-to-day basis, taking the time out to help someone in need will never go unnoticed.

A recent TikTok video has been making waves online after a TikTok user who goes by @anaijoi, shared a clip of an elderly couple he assisted in Penang recently. In the clip, the user said that he came across the duo who was walking home after going to a grocery store near his house. Feeling moved to assist them, the man proceeded to drive them home.

It was not until he reached their residence did the man realise how far they lived from the store, making their walking journey quite a distant one just to purchase a few basic necessities.

“I was even more shocked to see the area where they lived. The grass surrounding their compound was thick and abundant,” he wrote in a caption across the video.

Extending a kind gesture towards the duo, the user and his wife decided to visit the elderly couple shortly after, to help tidy the surroundings of their house.

“When we were cleaning the house, we chatted with them for a bit. They have no children, and the uncle is 82 years old. They sustain their life with just a RM600 pension the uncle receives monthly from having worked as a school gardener in the past,” added the user in the clip.

Aside from that, the TikTok user also stated that the couple did not tend to their surroundings due to how expensive it is to hire grasscutters or to call for assistance. The user stated that it costs the couple just RM50 to grab a taxi to the nearest city, reducing their monthly pension to just RM550.

“This doesn’t count their bills or clinic visits for their health checks,” he wrote in the clip.

In his closing thoughts, the user stated that it was important for him and his wife to assist the couple where and when they could, advising others to always do the best they can when they come across others in need.

Receiving immense support from commenters under the post, many people extended their deepest gratitude to the user for taking time out of his schedule to aid the elderly couple.

“The teardrops are falling, may this husband and wife receive immense blessings, it isn’t easy to get a chance like this,” penned one user.
