On the 12th of July 2020, we were appalled and shocked by the news of a Kepong man who was arrested for killing three cats by placing them in a washing machine at a laundry store.
The man was arrested and according to Malaysian Animal Association, the case would be investigated under the Animal Welfare Act 2015 where an offender can face a maximum jail term of three years and a maximum fine of RM100,000.
In his hearing today, the criminal, Mohd Najwan bin Zulkifli, has pleaded not guilty on the count of murdering three innocent cats.

Malaysia Animal Association’s president, Arie Dwi Andika, and team and president were at the Selayang Courthouse to observe the case’s development.
The court has ordered the criminal to be placed in Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, a mental institution, for a mental health examination. The case will be re-mentioned on 13th August 2020.
Unsurprisingly, netizens are not in favour of this ruling and believe the criminal deserves a harsher punishment.
“Releasing him from the crime of killing cats is a BIG MISTAKE. Please give him a harsher sentencing so that the cats’ deaths aren’t in vain.”
“Incident like this shouldn’t be taken lightly. First, he harms cats, sooner or later, maybe small children could be his next victim.”
“If he’s truly mentally affected, make sure he stays in the institution for a long time. It’s so easy that he brutally murdered the cats and just claim to be mentally ill. It’s even more disappointing that the authorities even allowed this to happen. Is this how it’s going to be in the future? When anyone commits a crime, they can just claim to be mentally ill and avoid getting punished?”
What do you think of the ruling the criminal faced? Let us know in the comments section!
