A restaurant owner was fined RM20,000 by the Sessions Court in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of displaying a Halal logo at his premises last November, without a valid certification.
According to a report by Kosmo, Judge Zulkifli Abllah also imposed a 6-month jail sentence should the restaurant owner, 48-year-old Lim Beng Kee, fail to pay the RM20,000 fine.

Based on the charge, Lim was charged with describing food at his restaurant on Jalan Temenggong as Halal, at about 12:46pm on November 18, without having any permission or valid certifications from the authorities.
The prosecution was conducted by the Prosecuting Officer of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Muhammadi Iman Masjuri while Lim was not represented by a lawyer.
Lim has since paid his fine, and his bail set at RM8,000 was returned to him.
