The whole purpose of being a caregiver is to provide care to those who need it.

But, if one is unable to do so, and in turn is violent instead of caring, then they should not have the job of a caregiver at all.

Councillor for Seberang Perai Municipal City Council, David Marshel, took to his Facebook page to share horrifying footage of a caregiver beating an elderly man with a stick at an old folks home in Padang Serai, Kedah.

Abuse 1

He wrote, “The caregiver of an elderly care centre in Padang Serai beats an elderly person with a stick.”

“I believe that a police report has been made against the management of the centre and hopefully the police will take action to rescue all the elderly people and orphans under their care.”

In the video showcased, the caregiver could be seen scolding the elderly victim before beating him with a stick.

Abuse 2

At one point, both the caregiver and the elderly victim moved out of view of the camera as the elderly victim tried to back away from the caregiver.

Though, he could still be seen as he ended up on the floor, while the caregiver continued to beat the elderly victim and his yelps of pain could be heard.

The politician added that this apparently isn’t the only case of elder abuse at the centre.

Abuse 3

“I also received calls from members of the public who told me that many more elderly people were beaten and abused by the operator of the centre.”

“I request that the welfare department monitor all registered care centres so that all care centres comply with SOPs and cancel licenses or approval if there is such things as beating and abusing care centre residents. The immediate action of the concerned party is highly expected,” he added.

What would you do if the elderly victim was your loved one? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
