To be fair, Kedah does have a lot of hidden gems for tourism!
The Kedah Tourism Board said that it will continue its vigorous promotion efforts to attract visitors to the state despite the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO). These efforts will predominantly be done online via social media.
As reported by national news agency Bernama, the promotion efforts was to ensure that the state’s tourism sector will survive as it was badly hit with the Covid-19 pandemic. Kedah Tourism manager, Nor Azlan Fitri Abdul Razak said,
“Through this continuous promotion, tourists can plan and list the places they would want to visit when the MCO ends.”
Furthermore, Nor Azlan said that the number of domestic tourists to 12 districts in the state increased tremendously every time inter-state travel is allowed. The most popular Kedah districts were Baling and Yan.
The Kedah Tourism manager also said that the Covid-19 outbreak as well as the enforcement of MCO in March last year has forced many tourism operators to shut down. These operators could not sustain their businesses due to financial difficulties.
This promotion effort by the Kedah Tourism board is supported by the state government and various other agencies including the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry. It is hoped that it would help to revive the tourism activities in Kedah as well as the rest of the country.
