Sometime last year, Kebun-Kebun Bangsar, a community farm underneath a power line on a hillside in Bangsar, received an eviction notice that was later rescinded, which is great considering the vegetables farmed there have been going to the underprivileged.
Another amazing thing that has come out of it is that Kebun-Kebun Bangsar has since been recognised as one of the 6 most extraordinary gardens from around the world!
BBC took to their platform to honour Kebun-Kebun Bangsar with the mention.
They wrote, “Feeding underprivileged people was one of the primary objectives in starting the garden, as was teaching locals how to prepare for potential food insecurity by growing their own produce. When the pandemic happened in 2020, the situation they had been preparing for was suddenly upon them. There were shortages in the supermarkets, but the garden proved to be a plentiful source of supply.”
“Post pandemic, the garden continues to be a haven for families and volunteers, and in addition to providing food to local residents, it also plays a key role in waste management. Food scraps from the entire neighbourhood are turned into compost.”
Not just a source of food for the underprivileged, Kebun-Kebun Bangsar is also a safe haven to all kinds of animals!
We’re so happy that Kebun-Kebun Bangsar got to keep up their good work for their contributions to our fellow community members and the environment is priceless!
