If you’ve been experiencing what it’s like to travel on-board the LRT lines operated by RapidKL during the recent MCO period, you will no doubt have been familiar with the social distancing measures taken by the company to ensure that everyone keeps a safe distance on board.

Well, it would seem that these measures will now officially come to an end by tomorrow (10th June 2020) after it has been announced by RapidKL CEO Abdul Hadi Amran that the LRT Kelana Jaya line, LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling, MRT Sungai Buloh to Kajang line and Monorail lines will no longer require the enforcement of social distancing measures on board.

“Social distancing markers in the trains and stations have already been removed,” he said in a statement today (9th June 2020).

This falls in line with the current SOPs that have been issued by the federal government in the current recovery MCO phase, which allows for a 100% capacity of passengers on rail services, excluding ETS and KTM trains according to The Star.

However, this does not mean that no measures will be enforced to ensure everyone’s safety, as temperature screening and the use of face masks will continue to be in place. Passengers will also be encouraged to use cashless transactions at all stations such as Touch’n Go cards, as well as downloading the MySejahtera app for contact tracing purposes.

This move should allow RapidKL rail services to return to its 750,000 passenger capacity, as compared to its previous 200,000 capacity during the MCO period. Trains will continue to be regularly cleaned and sanitised for hygiene purposes.

What do you guys think of this development?
