After being under the Movement Control Order (MCO) for almost a month, Malaysians have been expecting the MCO to come to an end after messages from Health DG, Tan Sri Datuk Dr Hisham Noor who said that an extension was highly unlikely as the country’s economy will not be able to handle another extension.
In his press conference today, Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the MCO 2.0 will be extended until 18 February 2021 throughout the country except in Sarawak. This decision is followed by the rise of sporadic cases in the community.
He added that the SOPs will be tightened during the extension. For example, in markets and grocery stores, there will be a limitation in the number of people entering the store similar to the first MCO.
A full list of the SOPs will be released by MKN.
