The Kedah State Road Transport Department (JPJ Kedah) recently took to its official Facebook page to share an interaction two of its officers had with a female motorcyclist in Langkawi, Kedah, whom they pulled over for not having a valid motorcycle licence.
However, the encounter yielded an unexpected outcome for the woman riding the motorcycle, as instead of being issued a summon, the JPJ Kedah enforcement officers let her off with a warning and even gifted her a new helmet.
JPJ Kedah enforcement officers pulled over a motorcyclist for not having a valid motorcycle licence
As of the time of writing, the post has gone viral with over 173,000 views and more than 1,900 reactions.
At the start of the video, one of the two JPJ Kedah enforcement officers politely asked the motorcyclist whether she was a local and told her to produce her motorcycle licence.
It was then revealed that the woman had no valid driving licence, which the JPJ Kedah enforcement officer pointed out as being her first offence.
She then checked the woman’s motorcycle and found nothing wrong with it, as the two-wheeler adhered to the required specifications on the road.
The officers seized the woman’s helmet and gifted her a new, proper one for free
The JPJ Kedah enforcement officer then pointed out the woman’s second offence, which was wearing a helmet that was not according to road specifications.
The officer then elaborated that the helmet the woman was wearing was not safe as it had no SIRIM certification and was not meant to be used with a motorcycle.
Afterwards, the two officers then seized the helmet but, in its place, gifted a new motorcycle helmet that adhered to the required road specifications to the woman.
The officer then advised the woman to get a motorcycle licence as soon as possible and always wear a helmet that is according to specifications so that the roads will be safer for all users.
