Johor Man Driving Against Traffic in Viral Video Arrested, Says He Lost Focus After Argument with Wife

A recent video shared via a Facebook page has gone viral, showing a blue Perodua Aruz driving recklessly against traffic.

In a statement, Johor Bahru South District Police Chief ACP Raub Selamat confirmed that the incident took place along Jalan Skudai, Pantai Lido in Johor Bahru at 1:41 AM on June 7.

The driver claimed he was emotionally distressed

Raub said police have identified the owner and driver of the vehicle, and the driver was instructed to report to the South Johor Bahru Traffic Police Station to assist with the investigation.

Later that same day, around 11:30 PM, the 34-year-old vehicle owner showed up at the station and admitted to driving against traffic.

He claimed that he was emotionally distressed after an argument with his wife, which caused him to lose focus.

“The driver stated that at the time of the incident, he had an argument with his wife, which caused him to lose focus and enter the wrong lane,” Raub explained.

Urine test confirmed he wasn’t driving under the influence

Raub added that a urine test confirmed the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward by visiting the Johor Bahru South Traffic Police Station or contacting the Investigating Officer, Insp. Mohd Zulpaka bin Bambo at 014-8861791 to assist with the investigation.
