Like it or not, Malaysians are still known to be litter-bugs. Just go to any heavily populated urban centre in our country, and you’ll no doubt spot traces of litter hiding in drains, near road shoulders, or simply out on the streets without a care. And what’s worse is that most Malaysians don’t seem to care, happy to simply remain oblivious to the problem as they go about their day.

Well, for one Japanese man working as a volunteer with the non-profit group Trash Hero Putrajaya, he decided to take things into his own hands with the rest of his volunteer team and work to change the state of littering in Malaysia.

Netizen @NanaCyber2, a Japanese citizen living in Malaysia, recently embarked on his journey to help clean up Malaysia’s streets. More specifically, Putrajaya, where he lives. Alongside other volunteers from Trash Hero Putrajaya, the result of their hard work was astonishing.

According to the netizen, they managed to collect as many as over 4,500 cigarette butts that had been littered all around the Ayer 8 area of Putrajaya!

Accompanying photos reveal the shocking amount of cigarette butts that the team had collected, which resulted in huge mounds forming on the ground where the volunteers had heaped them!

Attracting the attention of many Malaysians, local netizens took to thanking the man for going the extra mile to help keep Malaysia clean, despite not being Malaysian himself, while also pointing out how shameful it must be to have a foreigner help clean up after our own messes in the first place.

To this incredible netizen and the team behind Trash Hero Putrajaya, we thank you for helping ensure that Putrajaya remains spotless with your endeavours!
