The Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) has terminated the services of a mosque secretary in Bukit Baru after he was caught watching pornographic videos on the premises.
jEarlier, a video circulated online showing the secretary watching pornographic material using the mosque’s equipment before being confronted for his inappropriate behaviour. The footage was recorded by the mosqueâs Imam, who subsequently stepped down from his position following orders from the mosqueâs Chairman.
The Imam claimed he was accused of tarnishing the image and reputation of the mosque
State Education, Higher Education, and Religious Affairs Exco, Datuk Rahmad Mariman, stated that the decision to terminate the secretary was finalised at a Mosque Governance Committee (JKTU) meeting this morning, following the individual’s resignation letter to JAIM. The resignation ended his duties as both the mosque secretary and the chairman of a village surau in Paya Ikan; both roles were JAIM-appointed positions.
“The JKTU meeting discussed this matter, and we decided to terminate his services based on the resignation letter received,” Datuk Rahmad said during a press conference today (27 January).
Regarding the Imam who stepped down, Rahmad said he is leaving the decision entirely to the mosqueâs management, which has the authority to accept or reject the resignation.
This is because the Imam was appointed directly by the mosque committee and received an allowance from them, rather than being a JAIM appointee.
In an official statement, the Imam clarified that he recorded the incident on 27 December 2025 as evidence for the relevant authorities and denied circulating the video online. JAIM has yet to identify the person responsible for leaking the footage.
