We hear about unemployment almost daily, thanks to the pandemic. While it’s heartbreaking to see the difficulties these people face, we can’t help but admire some of the ways these groups of people employ simply to survive.
Recently, an uncle in SS15, Subang Jaya went viral on social media for his nasi lemak business. The main reason it caught the attention of netizens was that he was selling one packet for only RM2 and three packets for only RM5!
The photos of his business were originally shared by a Facebook user on 14 August. The user added a caption with the post that read, “Whoever residing in SS15 can support this uncle. His nasi lemak is cheap. This uncle reminds me of my father. He is old. Whoever who has tried his nasi lemak can review it.”
Siapa yang duduk ss15 boleh support pakcik ni. Murah je nasi lemak dia. Pakcik ni nampak gaya macam baya ayah aku. Dh tua dah. Siapa yang pernah rasa boleh review. Moga rezeki pakcik ni murah.

Based on the pictures, the uncle seems to run his small business from his car boot. He can be easily spotted as he has a banner hanging at the side of his boot. According to comments on Facebook, the uncle starts selling nasi lemak at 5.30pm until the food is sold out.
Netizens who have tried his Nasi Lemak also shared photos of the nasi lemak and their review: it’s delicious! Looking at it alone is already making me salivate.
Besides praising the uncle’s nasi lemak for being tasty, many netizens have also taken to the post to show support for the uncle and to encourage supporting local businesses.
“Noted, thank you. I’m staying nearby. Will go support you tomorrow! I can get McD after the pandemic, they’re not going anywhere. Subang kaki, let’s get this nasi lemak first!”
“I’ve bought from this uncle. His Nasi Lemak is tasty.”
If you live around Subang Jaya and would like to show some support for this uncle’s business, he is parked in front of Shell petrol station in SS15, which is situated just beside McDonald’s. He starts selling from 5.30pm onwards.
Supporting local businesses at times like this is crucial. We need to take care of each other and encourage local business owners.
